Throughout the 1960’s Chevrolet was adept at producing cars that appealed to the American driver—whether for utility, basic transport, family duties, hot rodding, or just getting long hungry looks from other drivers. It was clear Chevrolet wasn't going anywhere and in 1956 introduced the Impala taking inspiration from the graceful Antelope bearing the same name. They were deep into their 4th generation of these cars and it was a time where vehicle styling was changing at a rapid pace. Every manufacturer was both in a competition to keep up with each other while also coming up with "the next best thing". With the growing appeal of mid-sized pony cars to the muscle-minded drivers the 1968 Impala line needed to offer something special or move out of the sporty class.

This 1968 SS Convertible brought out its best in lots of little details: Dual 5” headlights, redesigned front grille, first year side marker lights, four ashtrays (zero cup holders), hideaway wipers, sleek Strato-Bucket seats, the last year of the crank vent window, kick panel vents, gate shifter for the TH400 transmission, one-year only embossed floor mats, full-size glass rear window, power convertible top, long tall sexy hip line, hidden fuel filler (behind license plate) and those ‘68-only triple horseshoe tail lights in the bumper. The result is one sleek looking classic that while fitting in with the muscle car era with its enhanced coke bottle styling, was it's own beast in the market place. It is these clever choices and desire to remain ahead of the times that resulted in the Impala being one of Chevrolet's most popular flagship passenger cars that continued being produced for over 60 years.

This car received a full frame-off restoration in 2014 by the previous owner and has been driven approximately 20,000 miles since. On the exterior the car is painted in the factory correct sparkling Grecian Green paired with a power Black convertible top. All of the chrome is mirror bright and arrow straight. It rides on 16 inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels with new BF Goodrich Advantage T/A Sport tires that are new, including a matching full-size spare.

Currently the car is powered by a period correct freshly rebuilt 350 V8 with only 3000 miles on it. It has been dressed up with chrome valve covers, a chrome air cleaner and a 327 Turbo-Fire chrome circle air cleaner. It runs great and has a modest understated dual exhaust. Power is delivered to the wheels via the original Turbo Hydramatic 400 transmission and a 10 bolt rear end. It starts at the touch of the key and immediately produces smiles on all who can see or hear it. The front brakes are discs and are power assisted. It has power steering as well making it a very comfortable car to cruise around in. Underneath the floors are all solid.

The interior is all Black and has been kept mostly stock. It has dual bucket seats on each side of the original center console with storage space and the horseshoe style shifter. The dash is fitted with all of it's stock components but a second temp gauge has been added underneath.

The car comes with a high quality waterproof, sunproof, breathable silver car cover. According to the current owner, the car "has been a joy to own and drive," and we are confident new owners will get that same enjoyment as well. There is nothing more fun than hopping in a classic convertible to go cruise around on the weekend and this Impala can handle that task no problem.
