1957 Rolls - Royce Silver Cloud I
£19,000.00 | €22,901.23 | $23,794.37

The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was the core model of the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars range from April 1955 until March 1966. It replaced the Silver Dawn and was, in turn, replaced by the Silver Shadow. The J.P. Blatchley design was a major change from the pre-war models and the highly derivative Silver Dawn. As part of a range rationalisation, the Bentley S1 is also very similar apart from, of course, its radiator grille. The chassis was a simple steel box section, welded together and very rigid. Construction retained the traditional split between chassis and body which facilitated the provision of special bodied versions, although in practice the overwhelming majority of cars were delivered with the standard steel bodyshell, produced by Pressed Steel, and employing lightweight aluminium based alloy for the doors, bonnet, and boot lid. The engine was a 155hp six-cylinder unit with inlet over exhaust valves; twin SU carburettors were added in September 1957 and standard was a four-speed, automatic transmission.

This Silver Cloud I is presented in the highly desirable colour combination of Tudor Grey over Shell Silver with a Maroon leather interior. Our vendor purchased the car around two years ago and has enjoyed the car as part of his private collection, reporting the car to have been a joy to own and drive and trouble free throughout his tenure. Presented in excellent condition, the standout area of the car would be its interior, the wood is in splendid order and the seats present superbly, they have likely been retrimmed at some point and wear a very gentle patina. The exterior brightwork gleams and the paintwork is in good order with only a few minor blemishes in places, mainly on the upper Tudor Grey areas. The previous keeper owned the car for a decade and took it on various European tours including Italy, Switzerland and France, reportedly without a single breakdown or problem along the way. A brake service was carried out in September 2022 and the history file shows other various works completed throughout the years. This is certainly one of the more distinguished examples available. These cars are at their best when they are used regularly, and this example will be missed by our vendor. Supplied to auction with a V5C registration document and a comprehensive history file with various invoices and correspondence regarding its European adventures with the previous keeper.
