Presenting the Aston Martin DB5, a true masterpiece that exemplifies the epitome of an automotive icon. This exquisite right-hand drive example has been meticulously restored to its original splendour. It is believed to be one of just 62 cars to be finished in its original captivating shade of California Sage Green, which beautifully complements its luxurious originally specified black Connolly leather interior.
The DB5 boasts a timeless aesthetic and remains one of the most iconic cars globally. Despite there being only 899 DB5 Coupes ever manufactured, it's widely believed that half of the world's population would recognise a DB5 if they were to see one.
Originally launched in 1963 as Aston Martin's flagship grand tourer, the DB5 instantly captivated enthusiasts worldwide with its powerful performance and beautiful design. While its unforgettable appearance in the 1964 film "Goldfinger" added to its allure, the DB5 was far more than a cinematic star. Built upon the esteemed DB4's platform, this model underwent nearly 170 updates and refinements, including the introduction of the attractive competition-style covered headlights borrowed from the legendary DB4GT.
Under the bonnet lies the heart of the DB5 - a 4.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, an enhanced version of its predecessor's already exceptional powerplant. Equipped with triple SU carburettors, the inline six delivers a commanding 282 horsepower and boasts an additional 40 ft-lb of torque, ensuring a thrilling driving experience. Complemented by the ZF five-speed manual transmission, the DB5 exudes agility, grand touring capability, and the utmost comfort on the road.
This DB5 is a U.K. supplied, RHD example that was first delivered by Brooklands of London on June 9, 1964, to its proud owner, Mr. David L Shaw of Buckinghamshire. Having remained in the U.K. throughout its lifetime, this cherished classic has been meticulously cared for by only a select few owners. Notably, it enjoyed long-term ownership between 1985 and 2014, with two owners passionately preserving its heritage for 15 and 13 years respectively.
In 2015, this exceptional DB5 underwent an extensive restoration by Aston Martin specialists, Pugsley & Lewis, ensuring its flawless condition today. The restoration encompassed a meticulous bare metal repaint in the original California Sage Green, as well as a re-trim of all Wilton carpeting to match the car's initial specifications. Furthermore, Pugsley & Lewis conducted a comprehensive mechanical overhaul, including the installation of a new clutch, along with detailed engine and chassis works. The car was also outfitted with new 72 Spoke Chrome Wire wheels and fitted with new Radial tyres, enhancing both its aesthetics and performance.
Accompanied by an extensive history file, this DB5 includes invoices from the restoration, a certificate from the esteemed British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, and a copy of the factory build sheet, certifying its original specifications and delivery. It further upholds a comprehensive record of servicing, MOT certificates, and tax discs from the mid-1980s until the present day.
Since its comprehensive restoration, the car has covered less than 1,000 miles and presents in fantastic condition. Hilton & Moss’s in-house Aston Martin trained technicians have carried out a comprehensive pre-sales inspection which shows the car to be in fine working order. This remarkable opportunity allows you to acquire a meticulously restored example of Aston Martin's iconic grand tourer.
