The Volvo 200 series was introduced on the market at the end of 1974 as the successor to the Volvo 100 series. The model is so similar in appearance to its predecessor that it is difficult for a "layman" to distinguish between them. However, the number of technical improvements is enormous.
At the time of introduction, the different variants were indicated with the following type numbers:
242, 4-cylinder, two-door sedan
244, 4-cylinder, four-door sedan
245, 4-cylinder, estate
264, 6-cylinder, four-door sedan
