In the 1970s, Maserati was part of Citroën, resulting in a period of technological collaboration and shared development between the two companies. This partnership led to some innovative models like the Maserati Bora and Merak, which utilized Citroën's legendary hydraulic technology. However, Citroën's financial crisis in the mid-70s led to the sale of Maserati to the Argentine car manufacturer Alessandro De Tomaso.

Not long after, the Maserati Kyalami appeared. It is basically a revised version of the De Tomaso Longchamp, equipped with a 4.1 or 4.9-litre Maserati eight-cylinder engine instead of the Ford engine. With the larger V8 engine, the Kyalami was a true 150 mph car. When we look at the bodywork, we must admit that Pietro Frua could certainly design a car. He was tasked with taking the beautiful design of the De Tomaso Longchamp and giving it a look that better suited Maserati. The Kyalami is a stately coupe with unmistakable Maserati characteristics. This particular example is powered by a 4.2-litre V8 engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

Our example is an original Dutch car and one of only 200 built. The car looks truly stunning in silver-grey with black leather upholstery and in a lovely and good condition. In 1978, this Maserati came to the Maserati importer in the Netherlands. With two large documentation folders, this car is extensively documented. We see that a recent comprehensive service was carried out by a renowned specialist. Additionally, there are numerous invoices with the car, even from when the car was only a few years old. We also find various road tests, tuning data, a valuation report, and the original Maserati warranty booklet.

The bodywork looks very nice, with correct fitments. At first glance, it is immediately apparent that the car has a beautiful original appearance. This perfectly matches the car as a whole. The silver-grey paint is in very good and original condition. The car has the original wheels fitted with good tires in the correct size. The underside of this car is also in very good condition.

The interior of the Maserati is upholstered in beautiful black leather and is also in good condition. In short, the interior is a delight to the eye, and the seats are as comfortable as the day they were new. The instruments and controls are also in very good condition, as is the headliner. Please view the photos for an impression.

The mechanical aspects are very well maintained as well. The 4.2-litre V8 engine delivers 265 hp, making the Kyalami a perfect companion for longer distances. This is a stylish GT with a true Italian engine. The overall technical condition of the car can only be described as very good. The engine runs beautifully, has great torque, and the transmission shifts precisely. The brakes and chassis are also well cared for and perform as they should.
