Excalibur Phaeton 4 convertible
The Excalibur is the only handcrafted luxury car built in America. The company made cars that were manufactured to the very best quality. Almost all Excaliburs ever built are still running. The car was handmade from the start and it is not a mass-produced car.
The model is clearly inspired by the 1927-1928 Mercedes Benz SSK and was the first replica in the US. The first model featured a handcrafted fiberglass body paired with a Studebaker chassis and drivetrain. After the original company failed in 1986, the Excalibur was revived several times.
The brand is the only American car manufacturer that built a convertible as a basis. All other American convertibles were originally built as hardtops. They were then machined by independent coachbuilders. The exhaust system, grill and all metal trim are made of stainless steel. The dashboard is also handmade from imported Zebrano wood.
The Excalibur Pheaton is an exclusive model. There are only nineteen of this model on the road in the world. Production took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is based on the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SS. The first prototype was shown in 1963. The body was mounted on a Studebaker chassis, powered by a 5362 cc 290 HP V8 Chevrolet engine.
The car that we can offer you on behalf of the owner is from 1982 and came to the Netherlands in 2014, from which time it has had the same owner. Always well maintained and still in very nice condition. With only 19 units built, the phaeton belongs to an exclusive group.
